Abstract:

THIS PAPER FOCUSES ON THE ELECTRICAL PROPERTIES AND HARDNESS OF SYNTACTIC FOAM CONSISTING OF HOLLOW PMMA MICROSPHERES EMBEDDED IN AN UNSATURATED POLYESTER RESIN (UP RESIN) MATRIX. RESULTS SHOWED THAT WITH INCREASING MICROSPHERE CONTENT HARDNESS OF THE FOAM IS DECREASED WHILE BREAKDOWN VOLTAGE IS INCREASED.

Abstract:

Most recent studies on polymer nanocomposites containing carbon nanotubes include mechanical, rheological, thermal and electrical properties. Optical properties of polymer nanocomposites containing carbon nanotubes are not very clear. Accordingly, in the present work, the optical properties of these naocomposites are studied in the visible region of electromagnetic spectrum. To do that, PMMA nanocomposites including different percentages of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and carbon black are prepared by applying melt mixing method. To characterize the optical properties, the spectral reflectance values of the prepared samples are measured by a reflectance spectrophotometer with d/8 geometry in the visible region from 400-700 nm. The color parametric values a*, b* and L* of the samples are calculated in CIELAB color space under a simulator of the day light i.e., D65 and the observer 1964 (10o). For all forms of samples, i.e. powder and different prepared nanocomposites, the blackness index, proposed by Westland and et al., is calculated. For the latter, the transmission electronic microscope (TEM) images are obtained, also. As a result, with increasing the nanotube content up to 0.5 %wt, the spectral reflectance factors decreases down to 7% and the blackness content of the samples increases. In addition, the results show in comparison with carbon black, the samples containing carbon nanotubes represent a better blackness index. The TEM images show that for specific carbon nanotube content, the spreading CNT by melt mixing method is better than solution method. It seems that CNT can replace carbon black by its more efficient distribution by an appropriate method such as melt mixing.

Background and Objective: Denture fracture due to excessivethickness, malocclusion or other traumas during sneezing or washingare disadvantages of acrylic prosthetics and PMMA RESIN. So furthermethods are needed to increase their transverse strength. Althoughthere are many studies on reinforcing and modifying withcopolymers, cross–linking or use of metallic or fibric strengtheners toenhance mechanical properties, There are limited studies withparadoxical results. The aim of this study was to compare thetransverse strength between reinforcement with polyethylene fiberand two older methods (stainless steel, metallic mesh).Subjects and Methods: In this study 40 PMMA RESIN samples (65x12x3 mm) were made and categorized in 4 groups: With noreinforcing agent (control group); with metal wire (diameter 1.0mm); with metal mesh (diameter 0.3 mm) and with polyethylene fiber (Fibre–braid). These samples were put to 3-point loading test byInstron universal testing machine. Results: The average transverse strength in control group was 78.37MPa and for three other groups: metallic wire, mesh and polyethylenefibers, in sequence, were 80.25 MPa, 9 MPa and 78.56 MPa. Theresults were not statistically significant (P>0.05).Conclusion: Reinforcing the acrylic RESIN using different techniquesdo not produce increases in transverse strength in comparison withthe conventional acrylic RESIN with no reinforcement. Therefore, noneof the tested techniques are recommended.

Abstract:

In this study, PMMA-SiO2 transparent superhydrophilic nanocomposite film was applied by immersion method on glass substrate. Then the samples were annealed at 100 and 500 °C. Field emission scanning electron microscope (FE-SEM), energy disspersive spectroscopy (EDS), atomic force microscope (AFM), UV-VIS spectrometer, and water contact angle analyserwere used to studythe morphology, elements percentage, surface roughness, and optical and hydrophilic properties of nanocomposites. The coating transmission spectra showed that the transparency of the glass substrate did not decrease with PMMA-SiO2 nanocomposite film and remained unchanged. In addition, the wettability results for the annealed samples at 500 °C showed a decrease in the contact angle of the substrate from about 34. 1° to about 0°.

Abstract:

The poling process of polymers doped with chromophores is of great importance for the nonlinear properties of these materials. So, after having optimized the poling condition the second harmonic generation (SHG) was measured for PMMA polymer doped with Disperse Red 1. The dependence of SHG intensity to the poling voltage and poling temperature has been experimentally studied. The relaxation of dopant orientation in the polymer matrix was also measured.

Abstract:

Background and Objective: T3 RESIN uptake test indicates the availability of thyroxin binding globulin (TBG), which is the carrier of a large amount of T3 and T4 in blood. We aimed to study the relationship between serum T3 RESIN Uptake and serum lipids profile.Material and Methods: The participants aged 14.80±38.29 were both males (59; 29.5%) and females (141; 70.5 %). T3 RESIN Uptake was measured by Immunoassay method and serum lipid profile components (cholesterol, triglycerides, HDL-C, LDL-C, and VLDL) were measured by the kit. Results: Significant negative correlation was observed between serum T3 RESIN Uptake and cholesterol, triglycerides and LDL-C (P£0.05), but that was not the case for HDL-C and VLDL.Conclusion: Serum T3 RESIN Uptake can be evaluated to assess the risk factors related to cardiovascular disorders.
